Candle boxes date back to the time before electricity when the major souce of light was from candles and lanterns. This particular box is modeled after a nineteenth century American Shaker box. The simple lines and natural beauty of the wood makes this box a very attractive way to store candles. The box has dovetailed mitres and a highly figured maple lid that is attached with concealed barbed hinges. The box measures 5″ x 15″ x 4.25″ high and is capable of holding up to 14″ tapers.
This is an example of a maple box with purpleheart keys.
This box also makes a beautiful presentation box for a fine bottle of scotch or wine for the person who has everything.
